First Relationship Conundrum

From The National Post, Saturday, January 24, 2009
Article: 'Social scientists fail to isolate love' by Kathryn Borel Jr. (Indignities)

"The data [from scientists] revealed that our first romantic relationships are intense and passionate, and set an unrealistic benchmark for what solid, long-term partnerships actually look like. And that initial euphoria of your first love can very well ruin it for all the others... In his interview, Brynin said, "Remarkably, it seems that the secret to a long-term happiness in a relationship is to skip a first relationship... The solution is clear: If you can protect yourself from intense passion in your first relationship, you will be happier in your later relationships." Hence the cause of my indignation: What human being would willfully decide against [intense passion]?"
